We live in North East Texas and have about 14 acres. Not as much as some but enough for us to enjoy where we live. Our purpose in "farming" is not to produce enough to feed most "3rd" world countries, but to raise enough of our own food to eat a little more healthy and to have some to share with others too.
For many years we have raised dairy goats as our main source of entertainment and to provide learning experiences for our growing boys. Along the way we have ventured into the 4H program and have had more fun than ought to be legal ! We've learned to raise chickens, rabbits, ducks, meat goats, dairy goats, beef cattle, dairy cattle and most recently pigs. Each of the different animals brought us many hours of enjoyment as well as a greater appreciation of God's creation. We've watched chicks hatch, baby rabbits being born, bottle fed calves, milked goats, made soap & cheese, built barns, stretched lots of fence, planted gardens, grew fruit trees and spread a lot of manure ...... literally !
Each animal and project taught us something new along the way. Something that you can't always learn from a book. We've experienced births & deaths, sickness & health, gentleness & meaness, profit & loss, construction & destruction but probably the most inmportant thing we've learned is that we have been blessed to experience all these things as a family. That is priceless !!!!!!!!
The past several years we have shifted most of our farming focus on producing dairy products (goat & cow) and raising beef & pork. Occasionally we have all natural beef & pork for sale and we make soaps & lotions for sale also.
